Para peneliti menganalisis data dari sembilan studi yang telah terbit sebelumnya, dengan total lebih dari 430 ribu peserta dan menemukan, minum dua cangkir kopi sehari menurunkan risiko 44 persen lebih rendah terkena sirosis hati.

ujar penulis utama studi, Dr Oliver Kennedy dari Southampton University di Inggris, dikutip dari laman Huffington Post, Senin (22/2/2016).

Kennedy beranggapan akibat tak adanya obat untuk menanggulangi sirosis ada perlunya mengonsumsi kopi.

Lebih dari satu juta orang setiap tahun di seluruh dunia meninggal akibat sirosis yang merusak jaringan hati.

Hal ini dapat disebabkan oleh infeksi hepatitis, konsumsi alkohol yang berlebihan, gangguan imunitas, dan penyakit hati berlemak yang terkait dengan obesitas dan diabetes.

Kennedy dan rekan melakukan analisis yang dikumpulkan dari orang yang mengonsumsi kopi di studi sebelumnya untuk melihat seberapa besar pengaruh kopi dalam mengurangi penyakit hati atau lever setiap harinya.

Dari sembilan studi yang dianalisis terdapat delapan studi menunjukkan, konsumsi dua cangkir kopi sehari peroleh hasil penurunan yang signifikan dari risiko sirosis.

Peneliti memperkirakan mengonsumsi satu cangkir sehari menghasilkan 22 persen risiko sirosis lebih rendah. Sedangkan dua cangkir kopi mampu turunkan risiko sebesar 43 persen, sementara tiga cangkir kopi sebesar 57 persen dan 65 persen menurun jika konsumsi empat cangkir kopi sehari.

Namun hasil ini masih meninggalkan beberapa pertanyaan yang belum terselesaikan perihal jenis kopi yang dapat bekerja dengan baik untuk penurunan risiko sirosis.
